BrailleTech: technology for everyone

15 October 2015 17 October 2015

BrailleTech is a very special event about tools and products specifically adapted for visually impaired persons.

For three days, all Belgian manufacturers involved have a booth at the "Brailleliga / Ligue Braille" in order to present their ingenious products. Blind and partially sighted people as well as their family members and friends can test and compare different types of equipment: electronic video magnifiers, magnifying glasses, 'talking' tools, lighting solutions, etc. They receive all the advice they need in order to choose the right product, and they can also join workshops.

These workshops show our visually impaired visitors how to use new technologies, taking into account their disability. Smartphones, tablets, computers, etc. they are part of everyone's daily life and help us with many tasks. We use them to learn, work, communicate or to be entertained. The same goes for visually impaired people. During BrailleTech they discover different apps especially designed for them: colour detector apps, an app that will read aloud the subtitles for different tv-shows or films, etc. They also learn how to use their tablet, even if they can't see the screen!

Naturally, everyone is welcome at BrailleTech. This event is equally interesting for teachers, educators, nurses, directors of nursing homes, etc. Two of our workshops are aimed specifically at professionals. Moreover, entrance is free!
